Protection of Personal Information (POPIA)
We at afriPROP are committed to protecting the privacy rights of everyone who uses our website, subscribes to our communications, or engages with our services. In doing so, we will comply with the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
When you visit our website or otherwise provide personal information, you can be assured that:
We respect your privacy and your right to control your personal information.
Any personal information you provide (which means information that identifies you, or can be linked to you) will be used only for the purposes you consent to, or for legitimate purposes connected to our services and functions.
We will not share your personal information with third parties, except as necessary to resolve enquiries, provide services you have requested, or fulfil other legitimate purposes of our organisation (e.g., property services, client communications).
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard your personal information against loss, damage, unauthorised access or disclosure.
We will periodically review this Privacy & Information Policy and may update it. You should check this page from time to time to ensure you are comfortable with any changes.
This policy is effective from [effective date:07/11/2025].
Promotion of Access to Information (PAIA)
We recognise that transparency and accountability are important to our stakeholders. In line with the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (“PAIA”), we maintain documentation of the processing operations for which we are responsible. This enables you to request access to information held by us, subject to the provisions of PAIA, thereby supporting your right of access to information and enabling you to exercise and protect your rights.
As a responsible party under POPIA, we are required to maintain records of our processing operations and to respond to access requests in terms of PAIA (including a PAIA Manual).
How we use your information
To respond to your enquiries and provide you with our property‐services, marketing, and communications.
To administer our website, subscriptions, updates, property listings and client relationships.
To comply with legal or regulatory obligations (for example under POPIA or other relevant laws).
To improve our website and services, personalise your experience, analyse trends and usage.
Sharing of your information
We will not share your personal information with third parties except when:
It is necessary to fulfil your request (for example a third-party service provider engaged by us to assist with property listing, client communications, or maintenance).
We are required by law to disclose the information (e.g., under PAIA or other statutory obligation).
You have given us your consent to share it.
Retention and security
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. We implement security measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including but not limited to encryption, access controls and staff training.
Your rights
Under POPIA you have rights such as:
the right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal information;
the right to access your personal information held by us;
the right to request correction or deletion of your personal information where relevant;
the right to object to or restrict certain processing;
the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (or equivalent body) if you believe your personal information has been mis-used.
